Wangkou Village

Wangkou is a historic ancient village in Wuyuan, famous for the Yu Family Ancestral Hall, often hailed as an 'Artistic Treasury of Wood Carving'. Founded during the Song Dynasty, the village is strategically located at the junction of two rivers, forming a natural peninsula shape. It retains its authentic atmosphere with narrow stone-paved lanes and traditional Ming and Qing dynasty architecture. 📜 历史

Wangkou Village was established during the Northern Song Dynasty and reached its peak of prosperity during the Ming and Qing Dynasties as a major commercial port on the Xingjiang River. It was a hub for the transport of tea and timber. The village is home to the magnificent Yu Family Ancestral Hall, built in 1787, which is considered a masterpiece of Huizhou woodcarving. The layout of the village, with its long commercial street parallel to the river, preserves the authentic atmosphere of a traditional Huizhou trading town.
