Spring (March-April) is ideal for seeing the surrounding rapeseed flowers. Autumn (October-November) offers pleasant weather and vibrant foliage. However, the architectural beauty of the village can be appreciated year-round, especially on misty or rainy days when it resembles a traditional Chinese ink painting.

💡 プロのアドバイス
Arrive early in the morning or stay overnight to avoid the tourist crowds and capture the peaceful atmosphere. Be sure to explore the smaller side alleys to find hidden woodcarvings and quiet stream views. Try the local specialty 'Likeng Steamed Fish' and other farmhouse dishes at one of the village inns.
Likeng Village
Likeng is a quintessential Hui-style water village with a history spanning over 900 years. Known for its 'small bridges, flowing water, and cottages,' the village is built along a crystal-clear stream that meanders through ancient alleys. The architecture features the iconic white walls and black tiles of the Huizhou style, adorned with exquisite wood, stone, and brick carvings that reflect the prosperity of ancient tea merchants. Visitors can stroll across ancient stone bridges, observe the traditional lifestyle of the locals, and admire the harmonious integration of man-made structures with the natural landscape.
📜 歴史
Likeng Village was founded during the Northern Song Dynasty (around 1000 AD) and is primarily inhabited by the Li clan. The village layout follows the traditional Huizhou philosophy of harmony between architecture and nature, centered around a stream that provides both water and aesthetic beauty. Over centuries, Likeng produced numerous successful scholars and officials who contributed to the village's prosperity, leading to the construction of the grand mansions and stone bridges seen today.
