Poyang Lake
Poyang Lake is China's largest freshwater lake and a vital wetland ecosystem. The lake dramatically expands and contracts with seasonal changes, creating a dynamic landscape that supports incredible biodiversity, including migratory birds and the endangered Yangtze River dolphin.
📜 Histoire
Poyang Lake has been a vital part of Jiangxi's geography and culture for millennia. Historically known as Pengli Lake, it has been a major center for fishing, transport, and water management. The lake has been the site of many famous naval battles, most notably the Battle of Lake Poyang in 1363, which helped establish the Ming Dynasty. Its unique ecosystem, where 'water looks like a lake in summer and a river in winter,' has inspired poets and artists throughout history.
