Qingyuan Mountain has been a sacred site for Zen Buddhism since the Tang Dynasty. It is home to the Jingju Temple, founded by Zen Master Xingsi, one of the most influential figures in Zen history. The mountain is celebrated as the 'First Mountain in Southeast Jiangxi' and has attracted countless scholars, including Su Shi and Wang Yangming, throughout the centuries.
